Class of 2013 makes instant impact on high school basketball scene.
National Junior Player of the Year:
Austin Rivers, Winter Park (Winter Park, Fla.) 6-3 G
The son of former NBA player and current Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, Austin Rivers led the Wildcats to the state Class 6A title and a berth in the ESPN RISE National High School Invitational. A big-game performer, he scored 45 as Winter Park handed St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N. J.) its only loss and dropped 41 in two others games, including a showdown win over Brandon Knight and Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). He is the second consecutive class player of the year from the Sunshine State as Knight took home top honors among juniors last season.
Back in early February, a knee injury sidelined Butler High (Huntsville, Ala.) combo guard Trevor Lacey for the rest of the season. Now he’s looking to make up for lost time on the AAU circuit, running alongside Winter Park (Fla.) guard Austin Rivers on Each One Teach One out of Florida. We chatted with Lacey, a junior, to clear up stories of rumored leaders, have him weigh in on where he feels he stands in the rankings, and much more.

After playing his AAU basketball last summer with the Alabama Challenge, Lacey will suit up this spring for Each 1 Teach 1, the Nike AAU team out of Florida featuring 2011 guard Austin Rivers. Each 1 Teach 1′s opening spring event will be the Boo Williams Nike Invitational starting on April 9.
